Postings vs accessions

Each panel overlays USAJobs postings (green bars, intent to hire) and OPM EHRI accessions (orange line, actual hires) for one cabinet department. Both share the same x-axis but use different y-axes because postings and hires are different magnitudes — postings on the left, accessions on the right.

The dashed red line marks the federal hiring freeze (executive order signed Jan 20, 2025). Postings collapsed almost immediately for most departments; accessions follow with a few months of lag because pipelines that started in Dec / Jan continued to close out.

The accessions line shows actions whose effective date falls in that month, not when OPM processed them. Late-filed actions are correctly attributed to their effective month even if they appear in a later monthly publish. Postings are timestamped at posting open date.

Showing all OPM agencies with accessions data. Postings data is only available for agencies that post on USAJobs — many smaller agencies will show a flat or empty postings bar.
